NMC Appoints GBC CEO and New Times Corporation Managing Director

Accra, August 1, GNA – National Media
The Commission, in consultation with the President, appointed Professor Amin
Alhbadan and Frederick Amissah as Managing Director of Ghana Broadcasting
Corporation (GBC) and General Manager of New Times Corporation
respectively.

A statement issued by Mr. George Sarpong, the
Executive Secretary of the NMC, with a copy to the Ghana News Agency, said that the
the appointments were in accordance with Article 168 of the Constitution (1992) and
Article 2 (1) (e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1994 Act 449.

Prof. Amin Alhbadan is a development
communication expert.

Previously, he worked for GBC Radio News and
the Ghana News Agency after graduating from the Ghana Journalism Institute.

He has a master's degree and a doctorate in
Communication Studies of the University of Tampere in Finland and Concordia
University in Montreal.

He is currently the director of the Wa
Campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS).

He taught at the International School of
Social Sciences in Finland, McGill University in Montreal and York University in
Toronto.

Prof Alhasan joined the UDS, Nyankpala
Campus as Dean of the Foundation of the Faculty of Agribusiness and Communication
Science where he led a team of professors to present the communication
diploma and degree programs.

He served and represented UDS in various
capacity, including two terms as a member of UDS's board of directors.
Between May 2016 and February 2017, he was appointed Chairman of an Interim Executive Committee.
Committee (IMC) to restore order to the Wa Polytechnic following a lengthy
administrative and work crisis in the school.

Prof Alhbadan consulted for a number of
local and international development organizations, including USAID, CIDA and DfID.

He is also a founding member of
Ghana Association of Communication Educators (CEAG).

Prof. Alhbadan is the author and editor of three
books and several chapters of peer-reviewed books and journal articles in
Journalism, mbad communication and development studies.

Mr. Frederick Amissah is the lead consultant
for Bizturnaround Consultancy and a multi-award-winning sales leader with
more than 17 years of experience in startups development and implementation of new
initiatives leading to organizational growth.

He is the former country director of
Herbalife Nutrition Ghana Limited.

He worked with major international groups
Such companies as British American Tobacco, Diageo – Guinness Ghana
Breweries, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Globacom and Herbalife Nutrition from
Ghana in different capacities.

He holds a BSc. (Agriculture) of KNUST, a
Master of Business Administration – Marketing from GIMPA, and a degree in
Strategic Marketing Management of the Institute of Commercial Management, UK.
He is a member of CIMG, Project Management Institute and Young African
Leaders Network Initiative (YALI). He was inducted into the nobles of West Africa
WANF Forum as a prominent West African when he won the CEO magazine award
The Titan-Building Nation Awards at both regional and regional level
levels.

Frederick was also declared "Marketing
Personality of the Year at the West African Regional Magazine's West Achievers Awards at
Lagos, Nigeria, in October 2015.
