Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is committed to supporting Ghana Medical Relief (GMR), a nonprofit organization that provides free medical services to disadvantaged communities in Ghana.
The GMR is made up of doctors and volunteers based in the United States of America and Ghana to provide free health care every year in the country.
Former President Kufuor made this promise when a delegation from GMR paid a courtesy call on him at his home in Accra and welcomed the initiative by GMR.
The President of the Organization, Samuel Kwapong Owusu, thanked the former President for hosting the delegation and declared that he was looking forward to joining the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation to improve the citizens of health, especially those from disadvantaged communities.
He added that GMR members were successfully engaged in a four-day free awareness program at Anomabo, where they provided services in pediatrics, urology, dentistry, gynecology and obstetrics, among others, to 3 000 people.
Dr. Owusu said that last year the team was in Asiakwa in the Eastern Region and was providing similar services.
He said the organization was working with hospitals, churches and agencies in the United States for the purchase of medical supplies, which were donated to hospitals and clinics in Ghana.
Dr. Owusu has announced to date donated hospital beds, ultrasound equipment, examination tables, cardiac defibrillators, operating room equipment and medical equipment. many medical equipment at several hospitals and clinics in Ghana.
