Akatsi (V / R), August 1, GNA – Mr. Leo Nelson
Adzidogah, the South Akatsi District Director emphasized the need for
the need for citizen participation in local governance to ensure transparency and
responsibility in the management of public resources.
He said that the responsibility had helped to improve
increased governance and development through better service delivery and
empowerment.
Mr. Adzidogah said this in front of a city hall
organized by the Justice and Peace Committee of the Akatsi Parish of
Christ the King, Roman Catholic Church (RC) in conjunction with South Akatsi
District Assembly on the theme: "Community Participation in Local Governance
rapid and sustainable development ".
The forum was intended to help the Assembly
raise awareness and educate citizens about their roles in the local governance system, help
the people demand transparency and accountability and position the Assembly for
mobilize funds to improve the livelihoods of the population.
Mr. Adzidogah said that if Ghana was
the practice of decentralization, citizens hardly exert their influence
ensure good governance.
He said that effective participation in local life
governance system strengthened the democratic process where the consensus was
built on policies and problems.

The Budget Officer spoke about the importance of internally generated funds (IGF)
and other funds to enable the Assembly to carry out its development program.
District Director of Elections Akorfa
Buabasah Asamoah, highlighted the role of communities in the elections.
The forum also discussed sanitation,
security, the upcoming referendum, among others.
Mr. Michael Tormeti, District Director of
Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, which chaired the
event, said the concept of decentralization improved the delivery of public services
and the ability of residents to participate in local economic development.
The meeting was attended by leaders, civilians
civil society organizations, security agencies, professional badociations and youth badociations
groups.
