Steven Larbi would have been on the list of people wanted by the police for a number of crimes
A young man described by the police as a "notorious" thief was arrested in his den in Tonkin, near Koforidua.
Steven Larbi, aka Junior the Leg, is said to have been on the list of people wanted by the police for several crimes, including murder and break-ins.
The 24-year-old would also have belonged to the gang of six people involved in the Kwabenya police station prison, which had led to the escape of seven inmates and the killing of a police officer, the 39, Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, stationed at the time of the incident.
He was named as one who allegedly shot at the police officer after appearing as a plaintiff who wanted to file a case at the police station.
Deputy Police Commander (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, commander of the Operations Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command, informed the Daily Graphic that the alleged thief was on the wanted list for his alleged involvement in about 20 cases.
In some cases, the suspect was captured by CCTV during his attacks on his victims, he said.
Some of the attacks and break-ins concerned residents of East Legon, Mempeasem and the surrounding area, he added.

ACP Ofori said the suspect was arrested after the police searched him intensely following his latest burglary operation. He allegedly broke into a North Legon banker in Accra.
Larbi was one of four alleged thieves who allegedly conspired and began the operation with a taxi registered GN 177-17 in North Legon, he said.
He stated that a surveillance camera capturing the steering operation had shown that the suspects had climbed the fence of the house and had broken the burglars' test of a window using a cutter to access the room of the owner of the house.
They attacked the banker and managed to steal $ 57,000, two iPads, a Toshiba laptop and other valuables.
While the robbery continued, a brother of the victim (undisclosed identity), who had heard his sister's cry, tried to rescue her, but the suspect hit her head with a heavy object, forcing him to flee House.

After the operation, the alleged thieves loaded the stolen objects into the taxi.
Police services revealed that the stolen items had been transported to Awoshie in Accra.
The victim however complained to the Madina Police Station and through investigations – using video recorded by the CCTV camera – three of the accused identified as Michael Afrifa, aka Wofa, 35; Larbi and Prince Thompson, aka Atta, 30, were arrested at various locations.
An amount of $ 15,000 was recovered from one of them, while the stolen property was found with another.
A fourth suspect, who would be a taxi driver and whose taxi had been used during the operation, is still on the run and the police are looking for him.
Police said the three suspects had acknowledged the offense in their cautionary statements and that after preliminary investigations, they had been brought before the Kwabenya circuit court.
Afrifa and Thompson were released on bail and, with Larbi, must reappear on August 7, 2019.
