Swedru: Students drown at the Na-Grill Cottage Hotel

Two students from the Swedru AME Zion (B) middle school in the municipality of Agona West were prematurely killed when they bathed at the Swedru Cottage Na-Grill.

The deceased, Prince Yeboah and Isaac Mbroh, both 18 years old, were among 60 school students who went to the hotel to swim after the holidays on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Speaking to the media, the parents of both students blamed the hotel management for negligence and wondered why they allowed students to swim without any security. Guards by the pool, after having paid seven cedis each.

According to the parents, the hotel management reported the case to the police command of the district of Swedru after depositing the bodies at the hospital in Swedru without informing them.

Social students drown

The parents claimed that the police had demanded an undisclosed amount to allow him to send the bodies to 37 military, military or police hospitals in Korle Bu for autopsy because there was no pathologist in the hospital municipality of Swedru.

The parents expressed their disappointment at the unfair treatment of the police and the management of the hotel. They asked the Ghana Tourism Authority and security agencies to thoroughly investigate this case to prevent frequent deaths occurring at the hotel to protect innocent lives.

Chief Inspector Opoku Mensah, officer of the Swedru District Police Station, confirmed the report from the hotel management that the students drowned but unfortunately died on their arrival in the hospital.

The station officer denied the parents' allegations that the police had not acted because they could not pay the amount requested for sending the bodies to autopsy in Accra.

Chief Inspector Mensah badured that the police would do their utmost to ensure that the bodies of the two students were handed over to the families for burial.
