The Energy Commission has revoked the power distribution license of the Energy Distribution Service, but not its right to hold ECG-owned badets, said the Information Minister.

According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Energy Commission is doing this.

"My memory is that they are suspending this one too. They also suspended the suspension within 30 days, unless the PDS shows that it should not be suspended, "he told Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Friday.

PDS holds about $ 18 billion of badets owned by the Ghana Electricity Company. These badets include the cash and strategic facilities of the GEC.

On March 1, 2019, PDS took over some GIC badets and operations, including the distribution of electricity service in all GEC operational areas in Ghana.

The new arrangement is expected to reduce distribution losses to a minimum, while providing improved electricity services to Ghanaians.

However, the government announced Wednesday evening without ceremony that the right of the PDS to distribute power had been suspended.

"The decision follows the detection of substantive and substantial breaches of PDS's obligations in the provision of payment guarantees (demand guarantees) for transactions discovered during subsequent audits," said a government.

The publication further revealed that the Ghana Electricity Company had been tasked with performing the tasks of the PDS until it was suspended.

The Information Minister said that the PDS still held the ECG badets because the government wanted to follow the regular procedure (which requires a 30-day period for such a license to be revoked).

"Do not forget that we said that everything that is done must be done in accordance with the law," he told Daniel Dadzie, SMS facilitator.

Mr Nkrumah added that "the PDS and the ECG are working to ensure that the ECG has access to all these sites. And that these sites are not compromised. "

The Minister of Information badured that "there will be no interruption of electricity supply due to the current transition".
