On Friday, the famous Louvre Museum in Paris urged visitors to book their visit online after experiencing a mbadive influx this summer, adding that bookings would be mandatory by the end of the year.
The Louvre Museum, which houses Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and is the most visited museum in the world, is a victim of its own success and overcrowding is a problem.
Problems intensified this summer due to the heat wave that prompted tourists to take refuge in cool museum rooms. Also, a temporary move from the Mona Lisa to another room to allow renovations added to the confusion.
"Bookings will facilitate public entry throughout the week," said Vincent Pomarède, deputy general administrator of the Louvre.
"Until now, the booking system was not mandatory (but), we will set up a mandatory reservation system, as many other museums have done, and, from 39; here the end of the year, all visitors will have to book, "he told AFP. .
He said that it will help the museum cope with the number of visitors. "It will be October or November – we have accelerated what we wanted to put in place early in the year 2020," he added.
