Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the electricity distribution group Ghana Limited did not belong to a group of Osu barbers in Accra, according to speculations from some individuals.
According to him, anyone interested in knowing the owners of the corporation could do so by checking their contact information with the Registrar General's office.
At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, August 1, 2019, aimed at informing the public of the suspension of the PDS agreement as a result of the discovery of violations of the agreement, the Minister explained that PDS was a registered company and that to suggest that the company belonged to a group of barbers at Osu was false.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, who was answering a question about whether it was true that PDS-owned barbers belonged to Osu during the press conference, said that the government had opened a thorough investigation into the matter.
The government, through the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Electricity Corporation (ECG) Limited, announced on Tuesday the suspension of the concession agreement with PDS with immediate effect.
In a statement signed and published by the Minister of Information, this decision follows the detection of fundamental and substantial violations of the obligation of PDS to provide payment guarantees (sight guarantees) for the transaction that were discovered during subsequent checks.
