According to the deputy commissioner of the Ghana Immigration Service, ACI, Isaac Oklu, the language barrier is one of the main problems faced by officers along the borders of ECOWAS member states.

He explained that Ghanaian officers posted at the country's borders were encountering difficulties in engaging with ECOWAS citizens entering the country; This, he said, results from the fact that Ghana is surrounded by French-speaking countries.

ACI Oklu called on ECOWAS members to pursue policies aimed at removing language barriers between Member States in order to achieve the objectives set out in the "Protocol on Free Movement of Persons" in the subregion.

He delivered a speech at a public meeting on the "Awareness and Awareness Campaign: Free Movement and Migration", which was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 1, 2019. .

He therefore advised the leaders of ECOWAS states to adopt policies to remove language barriers between member states.

The Assistant Commissioner believes that this will greatly badist law enforcement officers, such as the Immigration Service, in facilitating the movement of ECOWAS citizens in the region.

The ECOWAS Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, the Right of Residence and the Right of Establishment is a protocol adopted by ECOWAS to facilitate the movement of citizens between Member States.
