Monday, August 5, 2019 was declared a holiday for the Founders' Day of August 4, which falls on a weekend.

A statement signed by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, said that, given the daylight falling on a Sunday, the President has, by an Executive Instrument (IE), declared Monday, August 5 as a holiday "to be observed in as such throughout the day.

This is the first time that Ghana celebrates the day of the founders after the amendment of the law on holidays.

It replaces Founder's Day, celebrated on September 21, on the anniversary of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah.

September 21st will now be considered "Kwame Nkrumah Remembrance Day".
