Colby Covington is after the championship and the welterweight celebrity of the UFC. He does not care who he has to turn to get there either.
After defeating Robbie Lawler at the main event of the UFC on ESPN 5, Saturday in New Jersey, Covington went on the mic with his usual daring. He praised the family of US President Donald Trump, whose two sons were present at the fighting. He praised the American troops.
"I was really inspired when the first family arrived in the building and came to see me behind the scenes. Let's leave for trumps, they keep America in super! I also want to thank the troops. Without the troops, none of this would be possible. They sacrifice their lives for our freedom. I would not be able to do that today without them, "Covington said.
He then explored not only Lawler, but also his friend and former teammate, UFC Hall of Fame member Matt Hughes.
"Hey, let's talk about the lesson we learned here tonight. This is a lesson Robbie should have learned from his good friend Matt Hughes. You stay out of the way when the train pbades, junior. It does not matter whether it's the Trump train or the Colby train. Get out of the way!
Of course, this has elicited a lot of reactions on social networks, but the man who was taken to the trouble by Covington took it to heart.
"I do not know if (Covington) should have used my accident as fuel for his post-fight trash speech, but it was a hell of a fight," Hughes wrote on his Instagram account.
"Nice win for (American Top Team) and (Lawler) is still fighting well. Reminder however, it is the world of fighting. Trash people talk and you need thick skin. "
Shortly after leaving the octagon, Covington appeared in UFC after ESPN + after ESPN 5, where he was greeted by his next opponent, UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, who was working at the office alongside Karen Bryant and Rashad Evans.
The interview was as lively as expected, but a host of security members of the UFC separated them.
