Former Ebola Patients to Mark Fifth Anniversary of Treatment in the United States – New Delhi Times

While a new Ebola outbreak is raging in Congo, some of the first Ebola patients to have been successfully treated in the United States during the deadliest epidemic five years ago are reaching their doctors.

Kent Brantly, Nancy Writebol and Ian Crozier are three of four Americans who were treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta in 2014 and who were cured.

They plan to join Emory's medical staff for a press briefing on Friday, marking the fifth anniversary of Brantly's arrival. He was the first to come to Emory after being infected while working in Liberia.

The current epidemic in Congo has already killed more than 1,800 people, nearly one third of whom are children.

The 2014-2016 outbreak in West Africa has killed more than 11,300 people.
