The Premier League has voted against the implementation of five substitutes in what will be a blow to Jurgen Klopp.

Senior directors and flight chiefs had discussed the possibility of increasing the number from three to five.

Injuries increased significantly this quarter due to aircraft congestion and it had been suggested that allowing two more subs per game would help manage the player workload.

Klopp, who has faced a plethora of absences this quarter, has been a leading voice in pushing for change.

He recently confessed that he was losing the support of his colleagues.

The likes of Chris Wilder at Sheffield United felt that the increase in the number of subs would widen the gap between the top teams and the rest.
