Disney Confirms ‘The Boba Fett Book’ Is A Separate Show From ‘The Mandalorian’

I’m not sure why Disney bothered to keep this a mystery for three days, but now they’ve stepped in to officially announce The Book of Boba Fett, which was teased after the credits for the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, and caused a split among fans.

On the one hand, there were fans who believed the “book” meant our Mando “chapters” were over, and Boba Fett was picking up the show for season 3. Others, like me, said that this hadn’t made sense with The Mandalorian teasing a big new storyline in the finale (Gideon, the Darksaber, Mandalore, Bo-Katan) that wasn’t resolved. In addition, everyone has become very attached to the cast of the hit series.

Well, today just Disney officially specified, assuming enough Mandalorian superfans have watched the new episodes and seen the post-credits footage:

So yeah, they’re bluntly saying that this is a “new original series,” meaning this one and The Mandalorian will coexist. The two may even air the same month, or at the very least, Boba Fett can immediately follow the Mando finale, if things work out the same way as this year’s schedule.

A few things to note here: In addition to the usual Mandalorian producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, they also brought in Robert Rodriguez who directed the big episode “Boba Fett Gets His Armor”, although he was not named. showrunner and we do not know who has this role.

It’s also confirmed that Ming-Na Wen is a co-star, which was implied by the final scene and her relationship with Fett, but it’s still cool to see all the same. Going from what was apparently a one-off guest role in Season 1 to recurring in Season 2, to now co-direct his own series with Boba Fett on Disney Plus is quite a journey, and I’m happy to see the One of my favorite Agents of SHIELD actors is landing something huge for his next role.

While no further details have been revealed about the series, the teaser implies that after fulfilling his debt to Mando, Boba Fett’s new plan is to become a Jabba-esque crime boss in Tatooine, which will create of course a very different atmosphere from any other. show that we’ve heard Disney announce so far. I don’t know if the all The series will be set on Tatooine, but that will definitely be its base, that’s clear.

Now we find out what, if any, Extended Universe storylines Boba Fett might choose from the Legends Pool. Some things just can’t happen, like Fett interacting with non-existent Solo children, but there are plenty of stories after he survived Sarlacc’s Pit. Or it could also be an original plot. More soon.
