The driver of the Deputy Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Boamah Otokunor, has been arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
According to some reports, the arrest of Eric Adoglah is linked to the fires recorded in the country’s main markets.
In less than four weeks, a number of fires were reported in markets and other public spaces across the country.
There have been fires in Kantamanto, Koforidua and Odawna. Last Saturday, a section of the Kaneshie market was razed to the ground, leaving nine shops destroyed.
The phenomenon has become a source of concern for traders who lose thousands of cedis in these fires.
And for others, it may be a deliberate attempt by some within the NDC opposition to show their dissatisfaction with the results declared by the Electoral Commission.
But speaking on Accra’s TV3 channel on Monday, the suspect’s lawyer Victor Kojogah Adawudu said he was not yet informed of the offense his client had been charged with, hence his arrest. .
For him, the decision of the NIB is intended to intimidate the boss of the accused, Mr. Otokunor.
“His boss [Peter Otukonor] has been vocal so it is in order to intimidate her that they try to plant something in her [the accused] so that he accuses his boss [Peter Otokunor]. We don’t know, so we don’t want to guess, ”he said.
Lawyer Adawudu has expressed his suspicion that BNI officials want to “torture” the driver to tell him what may not be true.
