Deputy Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otokonor said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was behind his driver’s arrest over allegations he was involved in the recent fires in the markets.
He said the arrest was aimed at distracting attention from NDC protests taking place across the country to challenge the 2020 election results.
Mr. Otokonor’s driver, Eric Adogla was arrested on Monday, December 21, 2020 by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in connection with the recent market fires according to the security agency.
Mr. Adogla was however released today, Tuesday December 22, 2020.

“The nuclear power plant arrested my driver to distract from the critical issues of our resistance. They want the crucial issue of our protest and the crucial issue of our struggle to protect democracy and sovereignty in this country to be ignored. They found nothing on him and no charges were brought against him. I think that’s one of the few things the nuclear power plant does to distract, ”Otokunor said.
He, however, accused the nuclear power plant of being behind the recent fires in the market in order to woo public concern for the NDC.
“I heard the NPP general secretary issue a frivolous and childish statement that the NDC that our party is involved in fires. They know exactly what they are doing. They are using this to create some form of concern and aversion for the NDC and it has certainly failed. We wouldn’t go that low, ”Otokunor added.
