Minority leader in Parliament Haruna Iddirusu said NDC MPs confirmed that their petition to the Election Commission (EC) has finally been received.
This comes just 24 hours after MPs were embroiled in a scuffle with police on their way to submit the petition to the election watchdog over the results of the December 7 general election.
A scuffle ensued between police and some NDC lawmakers who marched from Parliament to the offices of the Election Commission on Tuesday.
Led by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu and the Chief Minority Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, lawmakers were prevented from passing a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout in Accra.
MPs defied police orders who said they were unaware of any minority walks to the EC offices.
The party protested against the results of the December 7 election, claiming that the EC failed to conduct a fair and equitable election.
According to the NDC, its presidential candidate, former President John Mahama won the election but was thus misled by their calls for auditing the results.
In addition, the party alleges that some parliamentary seats it won were unfairly allocated to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The minority was prevented from going to the EC offices by the police after numerous back and forths.
They read their petition and called on the police chief to take their petition and deliver it to the president of the EC, Jean Mensa.
No one came forward and MPs left as the situation grew hot, with some members of the NDC leadership, including Deputy Secretary General Peter Otukunor, joining them.
The Election Commission (EC) later said it was not properly informed of the minority’s decision to petition its headquarters.
He said a letter communicating the move was received a bit too late as senior officials were not available at the time to complete it.
However, Mr. Iddirisu confirmed on Wednesday morning that their petition had been received by the EC.
