Jean Mensa apologizes for inability to receive minority petition during EC headquarters march

The President of the Electoral Commission (EC) apologized to the minority in Parliament for not being present to receive their petition on Tuesday.

The Commission had previously argued that the notice of presentation was too short for the necessary arrangements to facilitate the reception since its senior officials were not in the office.

It comes after NDC deputies were stopped by police when they marched to petition the boss of the EC.

Dressed in red and black clothes, opposition MPs marched in a group to the Commission headquarters at Ridge in Accra.

Minority leader Haruna Idrissu, who read the contents of the petition to journalists, noted that, as they were ignored by the EC, they [Minority] will also decline her hearing when she appears before Parliament.

However, just 24 hours after the incident, the MP for Tamale Sud revealed that NDC MPs had confirmed that their petition to the Election Commission (EC) had finally been received.

In a response from the EC seen by Myjoyonline Acknowledging receipt of the petition, Jean Mensa told the minority leader that “we apologize for our inability to meet your delegation. This follows from the late receipt of your letter.

However, she assured NDC MPs of her commitment to do more to ensure that all of their demands listed in their petition are resolved amicably.

Meanwhile, the petition from NDC lawmakers, among others, demanded that EC President Jean Mensa “compile the results of the parliamentary and presidential elections for the Techiman South constituency from all 266 polling stations in accordance with the law, with immediate effect. “
