Christmas calls for celebrations. Although the pandemic has left us trapped inside our homes, there are still ways to have a good Christmas – with friends or alone.
Bring the hottest blankets, brew a mug of hot chocolate, and have a laid back vacation with these Christmas-themed movies:
Home Alone (1990)
A timeless Christmas comedy, Alone at home is the story of Kevin, a troublemaker left “accidentally” at home by his family during the Christmas holidays. The film revolves around the eight-year-old protecting his house from burglars (double his height).
Every scene in the movie is funnier than the last and the franchise has four more movies to offer – Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Home alone 3, Home Alone 4: Take Back Home and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist.
Trivia: Earlier last year, following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, CEO Bob Iger announced a new Home Alone movie. In reality, Kevin mccallister, the iconic actor from the original series, was also supposed to make an appearance in the film. However, due to COVID-19, filming had to be postponed.
Vacations
If you’re in the mood for rom-com, your search ends here. Long before a certain life-changing movie became popular, 21st-century Hollywood offered a house swap movie. Featured Kate winslet and Cameron Diaz, Vacations is about two women who decide to move to another house (and continent) to escape their sorrows.
Although the film received mixed reviews, we highly recommend that you watch it. Like most other romantic comedies, Vacations promises a happy ending too (and not one where the damsel in distress returns to the cheating boyfriend!).
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Based on Chronicles of Narnia, a fantastic series by CS Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was co-produced by Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures.
The film is set during World War II where four children discover a wardrobe and enter the fantasy world of Narnia. But, trouble awaits you! Narnia is under a curse and eternal winter – a perfect Christmas setup!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
What could be more magical than Christmas? Hogwarts!
While we would like to recommend the entire Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher (or Sorcerer) Peter has a special charm.
Based on the novel of the same name by JK Rowling, the film is based on the first book in the best-selling fantasy series. Harry Potter has just found out he is a wizard and joined Hogwarts – the start of all magic!
Watch (or re-watch) as ‘The boy who lives’ begins his life in the wizarding world.
Baby’s day
A serious dose of laughter sprinkled with a good dose of kindness. Released in 1994, Baby’s day focuses on the kidnapping of a child by three not-so-smart criminals.
As the trio manage to nab the baby, it’s hard to tell who is holding whom hostage as the baby sets out on his own adventures through Chicago leading his captors in a hilarious chase.
Trivia: Twin brothers Adam Robert and Jacob Joseph Worton played baby roles Bink in the movie. The late actor Verne Jay Troyer played Bink’s double hit.
