Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation about the future of Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, saying on Thursday he was happy with the Premier League champions.
The 28-year-old gave an interview in Spain last week in which he said Barcelona and Real Madrid are the best clubs and “who knows what will happen in the future”.
Athleticreports Salah would earn around £ 200,000 per week (A $ 358,000) on his current contract.

This led to speculation as to whether he was looking for a new, longer-term contract beyond 2023 or whether he was upset that Trent Alexander-Arnold received the captain’s armband for the group game of the Champions League with Midtjylland.
“We’re not talking about deals – well, not with you (the media). Why should we start now? Klopp said at his press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against ailing West Brom.
“Mo is in a good mood, always having a good time. He’s really in good shape and that’s the most important thing for me.
“We didn’t have any pictures (of the training ground) this morning but if we had you would have seen him laughing, he enjoyed the session.
“Everything else is nice for all of you to write about but internally, no, nothing really.”
While Salah is unstable, that hasn’t been reflected in his performance on the pitch this season.
He has scored 13 goals in as many league games, missing only one due to the isolation of Covid-19.
It’s his best start to a Premier League term, even better than his first campaign when he scored 32 in 38 appearances after scoring 12 goals in the same 14-game leg.
He came off the bench last Saturday to score a brace in Crystal Palace’s 7-0 beating.
“I think there are all these things to talk about: he didn’t start the last game, all the things I heard afterwards about what could be the reason, then he came and went scored two, ”Klopp said.
“I think in his first season he didn’t start against Stoke, he came and scored two. He obviously doesn’t need a lot of time.
Klopp has said he hopes his players will strengthen their lead over rivals – they currently have a four point advantage over Leicester.
The Reds have a busy schedule over the holiday season with a home game against Newcastle next Wednesday and Southampton the following Monday.
“All the boys were having a good time, which is why we have the points we have so far,” he said.
“Now it’s a lot more important that we really keep going. Everyone knows that the toughest moment of the season is now in front of us.
“The Christmas season is always difficult, so we have to make sure we get through this with the right results.”
