12:00 p.m .: Lunch – Australia 65 for 3

This is India’s session and exactly what they needed after the Adelaide collapse. It was on the verge of getting even better when Marnus Labuschagne survived a lbw on the DRS after being given to R Ashwin sweeping. The rebound saved Labuschagne after being abandoned on the pitch. Labuschagne had been keen to try to score but it was more difficult for Travis Head who fought 4 out of 37 balls. Mohammed Siraj is still awaiting his first bowl in Test cricket while Ravindra Jadeja has eased the pressure a bit with a few loose deliveries.

12:00 p.m .: Ashwin vs. Smith

26.6 Ashwin to Smith, OUT, got it, Ashwin hit with absolute beauty! He had Smith like that at Dharamsala in 2017, but it was around the wicket. I’m not sure if this was meant to continue straight or if it was just a natural variation, but he plays back a length ball just outside, and it skids quickly, takes the outside edge of his bat defensive and straight. on Ajinkya Rahane’s knees when sliding. He almost seemed to let Smith off the pitch, much like Mohammad Nabi’s arm ball

1st round, Melbourne

14.3 Ashwin to Smith, OUT, big, big moment. Smith threw one at Pujara at the Leg Ravine. Ashwin throws one to the side of the legs, unsure of how much that was part of the plan, but Smith couldn’t help and looks to get out of the way. Makes the connection correct but ends up hitting it directly at Pujara, who falls to complete the capture. Smith recovers blob, means he has two runs in three innings with a no-go for Smith so far in this series

11:30 am: Tense opening hour

This test was an exciting start with some life on the pitch, which means a good battle between bat and ball. Matthew Wade, after playing great for an hour, gave his wicket by smoothing R Ashwin into the side of the leg where Ravindra Jadeja grabbed a superb hold despite almost colliding with Shubman Gill. In an interesting move from Ajinkya Rahane, who replaced Virat Kohli as captain, he brought in Ashwin in the first hour and there was an early offer. Umesh Yadav has not been as consistent as Jasprit Bumrah but two wickets are a good reward for India and put some pressure on Australia.

11:00 am: early strike for India

India was rewarded for some good bowling debut by pulling out Joe Burns for a duck. Jasprit Bumrah was particularly tough with the new ball and found a fine point from Burns in his third to make back-to-back Boxing Day ducks for the opener. There is an encouraging pace and outfit on the pitch with signs that India can make it work hard. Matthew Wade looked very confident, making some good offside shots against Umesh Yadav.

10:15 am: Remebering Deano

The tributes to Dean Jones will take on many and varied dimensions during the test. An entire bay of MCG seats was presented in a large image of Jones, while spectators were encouraged to “zinc” in homage to Jones’ habit of doing the same when he was playing. Jones ‘family will be present at the MCG for the match, with a teatime video tribute scheduled for 3:24 p.m., acknowledging Jones’ loose green cap number and his highest first-class score of 324 against the South Australia in a day / night match Sheffield Shield at the MCG in 1994-95.

10:05 a.m .: Australia beats first

The play fell in favor of Tim Paine and he was happy to beat the first. Wonder of Ajinkya Rahane was happy not to have to make the decision. If there is a first life, Jasprit Bumrah should be able to find it.

9:50 a.m .: Pitch report

Damien Fleming, on Channel Seven, says there is 11mm of grass on this pitch. It might be of interest to fast bowlers on both sides, but it’s surely a bat first day. It is a clear, sunny and warm day. India must put this Adelaide batting performance behind them as quickly as possible.

9:30 am: Boxing Day at the G

Welcome everyone to one of the iconic days of the cricket calendar: Boxing Day at the MCG. For a long time, it seemed like that wouldn’t happen, so it’s great that the show has arrived and that we’ll have 30,000 viewers. Just to recap where we are at in this contest – India needs to find a way to bounce back after being regrouped for their lowest test score (36) in Adelaide a week ago. We already know that they have made four changes in an attempt to do so – two of them were applied in the absence of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami – but it will be a huge task. Australia are still without David Warner and have named an unchanged team. It’s rare that you have both XIs confirmed with 24 hours into the game. The draw is half an hour away.
