NPP conceded defeat in 2008 election for prioritizing the sanctity of our democracy-Veep | Elections

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said NPP and then presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo conceded defeat in the 2008 general election in the name of the sanctity of the country’s democracy and for peace to reign.

He noted that the NPP lost the 2008 presidential election by just 40,000 votes to the NDC, but they accepted the results and the sovereign will of the Ghanaians.

“It is not easy to lose an election. President Akufo-Addo and I have already lost elections and it was a painful moment.

“We lost in 2008 by just 40,000 votes, but we prioritized peace and the sanctity of our democracy and conceded,” said the vice president.

Vice President Bawumia made the remarks when he and his wife, Samira, worshiped with Victory Bible Church International, Dominion Sanctuary, Awoshie, in Accra, during Christmas church service on Friday.

“I am convinced that the Lord who has granted us the will and the power to prioritize national cohesion, peace and quiet at the expense of personal gratification is able to do the same for us,” said Dr Bawumia.

He noted that elections would always be accompanied by winners and losers, but that it was imperative to respect the peace and sanctity of the electoral processes.

The Vice President said that it is necessary for every Ghanaian to prioritize peace in the country before personal satisfaction.

“We must use ourselves to be used by God as an instrument of peace. As a country, we have come a long way because we have had a peaceful coexistence among ourselves despite the diversity of tribes, religion, ethnicity, etc.

Even in our diversity, we have always remained indivisible and what we have in common goes beyond what divides us, ”said Dr Bawumia.

The Vice President further explained that it was reciprocal love underpinned by biblical love for our neighbors that had made Ghana the most peaceful nation in the West African sub-region.

“This is an achievement that we well deserve and accomplish, and that we should not take for granted because it is by the grace of God that we have peace in our country,” added Dr Bawumia.

Dr Bawumia congratulated the presiding bishop of the Biblical Church of Victory, Bishop Nii Apiakai Tackie-Yarboi, for using God for his purpose and for saving many souls.

The Vice-President was convinced that Bishop Tackie-Yarboi’s prayers would go a long way in ensuring peace and tranquility in the country.

“This is the first church service I attend after the 2020 election and it’s no accident that we worship in the Victory Bible Church, it’s the victory of the Lord and Ghana.

“Thank you Monsignor and the congregation for the warm welcome that was reserved for us, and I will come back to this church to worship with you”, assured Dr Bawumia.
