Brazilian star footballer Neymar sparked outrage in Brazil after media reported it had hosted a huge New Year’s party despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Acelmo Goes, columnist for the O Globo newspaper, initially claimed that the Paris Saint-Germain forward was hosting 500 people for a weeklong party at his luxurious seaside mansion near Rio de Janeiro which started on Saturday and will last until New Years Day. .

Neymar, who is no stranger to the party, has come under heavy criticism since details of the event leaked in a Rio de Janeiro newspaper over the weekend.
But, while party organizers said only 150 people would be at the celebration, they appeared to confirm reports that the festive celebrations were taking place.
“The event will take place in compliance with all health standards as determined by public bodies,” Fabrica said in a statement.
The multi-day event will be held in Mangaratiba, approximately 105 km along the Rio coast.
Brazil has suffered the second highest number of Covid-19-related deaths in the world with more than 191,000, while 7.4 million people have contracted the virus.
Neymar, who is no stranger to the controversies surrounding his parties, has even installed soundproofing equipment to try to avoid disturbing his neighbors.
Leo Dias, columnist for the Metropoles site which is renowned for its scoops on celebrities, even named the artists who were to perform at Neymar’s party, such as Ludmilla and Wesley Safadao.
Customers’ cell phones should be confiscated at the door to prevent any evidence from ending up on social media.
Neymar’s representatives have denied the rumors, issuing a statement saying there will be “no party” at Neymar’s villa.
A specialist event agency, Agencia Fabrica, issued a statement confirming that it had been hired for a New Year’s event in the Costa Verde region where Neymar’s villa is located “which will host around 150 people … while respecting all the health rules determined by public bodies. “
Outrage over Neymar’s reports
A columnist in Brazil, Juca Kfouri, hit Neymar saying it would be a “ heinous insult ” after the terrible toll the coronavirus pandemic has taken over the country.
“To organize such a party is… the most heinous insult, it is an affront to 190,000 grieving families, it is to dance funk music on the corpses until the grave, it is to make fun of the healthcare professionals working in unsafe conditions to control Covid-19, ”Kfouri wrote, according to The Guardian.
Neymar’s villa is located in Mangaratiba, a small town in an area of luxury resorts in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The local town hall begged its 41,000 residents not to organize end-of-year parties and put up barriers to prevent people from gathering.
“We have no information on this holiday,” said the town hall in a statement sent to AFP.
Neymar, who has not played since December 13 when he injured his ankle against Lyon, has not commented on the party and has posted photos of his family on social media in recent days without comment.
His manor house in Mangaratiba is located on a 10,000 m2 plot including a helipad, sports fields, spa, sauna, massage parlor, gymnasium and dining rooms.
This is where he previously spent his time recovering from injuries and also where he headed from March to June when the coronavirus raged in France, resulting in the suspension of professional football.
Neymar tested positive for the coronavirus after the end of PSG’s Champions League campaign a few months ago, which he lost to Bayern Munich in the final.
Neymar traveled to Ibiza on a post-season trip with a number of other PSG players.
