A driver who allegedly ran over a 5-year-old boy in Tweeneboa, near Odorkor in Accra, on Christmas Eve, was forced to appear in Kaneshie District Court.
The victim, who was with two other children when the incident occurred, died while being treated at Korle-Bu University Hospital on the same day.
The driver, David Kwesi Asamani, has been charged with reckless and reckless driving and causing damage through negligence.
The court, chaired by Ms. Ama Adomako Kwakye, retained Asamani’s plea, while the police sought the opinion of the attorney general.
The Court, however, admitted Asamani to a bond of 15,000 GHC with two sureties. Asamani is expected to reappear on February 1.
Prosecutor Inspector John Baidoo said on December 24 this year around 3:00 p.m. Asamani was driving a Toyota Corolla car with registration number GX 1563-18, from Hansonic to Odorkor, Tweneboa along the unpaved street. from Otaten.
Inspector Baidoo said Asamani, upon reaching a section of the road at the Samodak company, failed to show due diligence and care and ran over the 5-year-old boy who was then in the company of two others. children running in front of the near side of the road.
The prosecution said the victim was seriously injured and rushed to Korle-Bu University Hospital, but died while being treated the same day.
Inspector Baidoo said the boy’s body has since been taken to the hospital morgue for storage and autopsy.
