Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Secretary General Peter Boamah Otokunor said the party trusted the Supreme Court to properly deal with its petition against the results of the 2020 general election.
This follows the official announcement on Tuesday of the party’s intention to legally challenge the December 7 election result.
In a press release signed by party secretary general Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the NDC said the decision was taken after a meeting between members of the National Executive Committee to “discuss issues arising from recent polls.”
Speaking on the Joy News on Tuesday, Mr Otokunor demanded that speculation that the NDC had delayed filing its petition due to its lack of confidence in the country’s justice system not be taken into account. .
“… Obviously, if you are asking for legal redress, this is the only place you can ask for a break. We therefore go there with all the confidence that we can find a respite from the Supreme Court, ”he said.
He also reiterated the party’s position to persist in its national demonstrations in order to voice its demand for annulment of the verdict of the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to him, the mass street protests are also aimed at ensuring that justice is served to the families of the eight citizens who lost their lives during the election period.
“The protests will go on unabated … and we do so specifically with the belief that there are things that are a requirement of the state – and we would demand that the government do just that for the people.”
