Assassination of MP for Mfantseman: forensic analysis of the exhibits

Police said the forensic analysis of exhibits related to the theft of slain Mfantseman MP Ekow Quansah Hayford, which was forwarded to the lab, was not yet ready.

The Prosecutor led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseine Yakubu said the results of the forensic analysis would determine the Prosecutor’s next course of action.

ASP Yakubu, therefore, begged the court for an adjournment pending the outcome of the forensic analysis results.

Defense lawyers reiterated their request for bail for the defendants but the court chaired by Ms. Evelyn Asamoah rejected it.

At the last session, the police informed the court that the exhibits had been forwarded to the police forensic laboratory.

According to the prosecution, the exhibits report which included a pistol, pellets and shells would determine the way forward in the trial.

The accused are Alhassan Abubakar alias Abu Fulani, Naziru Fudailu Nash alias SP, Alhassan Mahama Yahaya alias Mystical Cloud, Amadu Yakubu, Haruna Osmanu, Adam Alhassan, Fuseini Alhassan alias Black Smith and Fred Tetteh alias Wallace and a Mohammed and others who are said to be to be free.

The accused face various charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and robbery.

According to the prosecution, Alhassan Abubakar alias Abu Fulani, is a mobile phone repairman residing in Akwatia Line, Kumasi and Naziru Fudailu Nash alias SP is a businessman living in Aboabo No. 2, Kumasi.

The prosecution said that Alhassan Mahama Yahaya, aka Mystical Cloud, was unemployed and lives in Dansoman in Accra, Amadu Yakubu is a Mobile Money agent and lives in Mankessim Zongo while Haruna Osumanu is a trader living in Mankessim.

The prosecution said that on October 9 this year, at around 1 a.m., police had information that armed thieves had barricaded a section of the road between Abeaze-Dominase and Duadze on the Mankessim Assufosu highway, depriving commuters of their cell phones, money and other valuables.

He said police quickly mobilized the men and attended the scene, but narrowly missed the thieves.

According to the prosecution, at the scene, police saw a number of vehicles parked on the road with some of the victims who had suffered varying degrees of gunshot wounds with one dead.

The prosecution said a body was later identified as Mfantsiman MP Ekow Quansah Hayford.

According to the prosecution, two of the victims, a Patrick Asante, a Kia truck driver and an uncle Issah, the MP’s driver, were seriously injured.

The prosecution said police cleared the road to restore traffic and transported the victims to hospitals in Winneba and Cape Coast for medical treatment.

The prosecution said the body of the deceased MP was then deposited in the Saltpond mortuary pending the autopsy.

According to the prosecution, the investigations revealed that the late MP for Mfantsiman had submitted his candidacy form on October 8 this year to be re-elected and had decided to visit four communities in the electoral area of ​​Taabosom namely; Effutakwa, Opim, Takoradi and Duadze.

The prosecution said the deputy arrived with his campaign team in a Mitsubishi pickup truck in the nuclear power plant’s colors and that the thieves immediately fired shots at the vehicle, causing the tires to burst. vehicle that finally stopped after hitting a ditch.

The prosecution said the thieves surrounded them and demanded all their valuables.

The thieves pointed a gun at Stephen Allan and asked if he was a Member of Parliament, which he replied in the negative.

The prosecution said Mr Hayford, the MP admitted, so they pounced on him and got his Samsung Galaxy 850 cell phone and demanded money as well.

The prosecution said the late MP told thieves he had used up all his money while returning from a campaign tour.

“So he begged them to take him home to give them money, but they refused and shot him dead, killing him instantly,” the prosecution said.

According to the prosecution, police traced the deceased’s cell phone to Kumasi and arrested Nash in Aboabo in possession of the late Samsung Galaxy 850 where Nash mentioned Abubakar as the person who sold him the phone for ¢ 780.00 .

Prosecutors said Nash led police to the Akwatia Line where Abubakar was also arrested.

Abubakar mentioned Mohammed as the one who sold him the phone for 680.00 ¢ and that Yahaya, Yakubu, Osumanu and Alhassan were all arrested in connection with the theft and murder of the MP.

The prosecution said efforts were underway to apprehend Mohammed and other accomplices.

The case has been adjourned until January 18 of next year.
