Calm has returned to Hohoe constituency after a demonstration by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was stopped by Atabu Asafo warriors.

The demonstration was supposed to allow the Party to present a petition to the Election Commission (EC).

Party supporters, who started a march from Gbi-Atabu, could only realize their plans by reading the petition to Atabu.

The Asafo group fiercely resisted the NDC group from crossing the line by claiming to perform traditional rites.

Mr. Ken Ayim, spokesperson for the Asafo group, said they refused to allow the party to demonstrate because they felt the SALL people were part of the protest.

He said that the SALL enclave had prevented the late Togbega Gabusu from asserting his wish to join the Oti region, hence the Group’s action.

Mr. George Bright Anni Bansah, Constituency Chairman of NDC Hohoe, who read their petition to Gbi-Kpoeta, said that “our brothers and sisters at SALL have been denied their voting rights and their voting rights do not were not respected without representation in the eighth legislature. This right was violated. on. ”

He said their petition called on the Election Commission to comply with the law.

“The sanctity of our democracy must be restored and the choice of the Ghanaian people must be respected.”

Bansah also noted that indications from the Party’s audit team showed that “President John Dramani Mahama won the presidential election and the NDC won majority seats in Parliament.”

A strong security presence at the scene prevented a potentially fatal situation when people on both sides exchanged stones, which left one member of the Asafo group injured.
