“ We never said we won the 2020 election ” – Ayine

“We never said we won the elections,” said Dr Dominic Ayine, main opposition Democratic National Congress MP for Bolgatanga East, adding: “If we were convinced that we won this election, we would have declared that in the petition ”.

The deputy attorney general of the former Mahama government, who is also one of nine legal spokespersons for the NDC flag bearer in the recent elections, Mr. John Mahama, regarding the election petition, said this comment in an interview on GHOne TV on Thursday, December 31, 2020.

He said the NDC, as a party, had, at all times, felt that neither of the two main candidates – President Nana Akufo-Addo nor former President John Mahama, had secured enough votes to cross. the victory line in the recent election.

Mr. Mahama filed a petition with the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 to challenge the election results, which he said were a “rigged” result.

Find below the repairs requested by Mr. Mahama:

a) A statement that Ms. Jean Adukwei Mensa, President of the [EC] and the returning officer for the presidential elections held on December 7, 2020 violated section 63 (3) of the 1992 Constitution in her declaration made on December 9, 2020 regarding the presidential election held December 7, 1020;

b) A statement which, on the basis of the data contained in the statement made by Ms. Jean Adukwei Mensa, President of the [EC] and the returning officer for the presidential elections held on December 7, 2020, no candidate has met the requirement of Article 63 (3) of the 1992 Constitution to be declared president-elect

(c) A statement that the alleged declaration made on December 9, 2020 of the results of the presidential election by Ms. Jean Adukwel Mensa, President of the Respondent and Returning Officer for the presidential elections of December 7, 2020, is unconstitutional, null and void and without any effect;

(d) An ordinance annulling the declaration of instrument of the President-elect, 2020 (C.1.130) of December 9, 2020, issued under the direction of Ms. Jean Adukwel Mensa, President of the [EC] and the returning officer for the presidential elections held on December 7, 2020 and published in the Official Journal on December 10, 2020;

(e) A restraining order [President Akufo-Addo] to stand as president-elect;

f) A binding injunction order ordering the [EC] conduct a second election with the petitioner and [Nana Akufo-Addo] as candidates in accordance with Articles 63 (4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution.

In a subsequent address after the petition was filed, Mr. Mahama explained why he decided not to concede.
