Twenty-five babies were born at Korle Bu University Hospital (KBTH) on New Year’s Day, nine of whom were men and 16 were women.

Madame Edith Akua Baah, Senior Midwifery Officer (SMO) at KBTH’s Maternity Department, told the Ghanaian News Agency that 10 babies were delivered by spontaneous vaginal birth (SVD) and 15 babies by cesarean section (CS ).

She said six babies were taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where premature and critically ill newborns were cared for and treated with specialized equipment.

The GNA learned that the six babies included a premature baby, a gestational diabetic baby, two large “O / A” babies, a Mecronium Aspiration baby, and a baby with a low Apgar score.

Ms Baah said the mothers, who gave birth by CS, would be returned to a third-day post, provided they had no complications.

“Mothers who gave birth by CS will be referred to a third post while mothers who gave birth by SVD will be released a day or a few hours after childbirth when there are no complications,” he said. she declared.

The official said the babies and their mothers were doing well.
