Superhero movies to watch in 2021

2020 was the first year since 2010 without a single Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. We hope 2021 will rectify this. Many MCU films slated for release in 2020 will now hit theaters in 2021.

DC also has two films to release this year.

Sony, who built their live-action universe of Spider-Man and supporting characters (Spider-Verse), also has two films in 2021.

Here are all the superhero movies to watch in 2021:

Justice League by Zack Snyder

The famous 2017 Justice League Snyder Cut will finally be released in 2021. This is more of a TV show than a movie, as it would be released in four parts. Zack Snyder has mentioned that it will be released in March, although he didn’t mention the date. Snyder left Justice League halfway through, and Joss Whedon was hired to complete the film. His cut was hated by audiences and critics alike, and Snyder fans believe this upcoming new film will heal the damage.

Morbius

Morbius introduces Jared Leto, who has yet to recover from his Joker’s poor reception, playing the role of Morbius the Living Vampire. His character, Michael Morbius, suffers from a rare blood disease and a perilous cure turns him into a vampire. Morbius will be released on March 19.

Black Widow

Black Widow was previously slated to hit theaters in Spring 2020. It is based on the only female superhero in the Avengers’ old guard. Natasha Romanoff is now dead, the film takes place in the past. Specifically, it takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War in 2016 in which she finds herself on the run from the law thanks to her assistance to Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. Black Widow will be released on May 7th.

Venom: May the Carnage Be

Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock or Venom in the sequel. Woody Harrelson will be the main antagonist Cletus Kasady or Carnage, and Michelle Williams and Reid Scott will return as well. Naomie Harris will also star in the film, directed by actor-filmmaker Andy Serkis. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be released on June 25.

Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings

Simu Liu will star in the long-awaited Shang-Chi movie. Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina has been cast in an undisclosed role and Tony Leung will be playing the (real) Mandarin, not the impostor played by Ben Kingsley. The film will explore in detail the shady terrorist organization Ten Rings. Director Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings of Fate Daniel Cretton will be released on July 9.

The suicide squad

Colorful tone, playful character, weird characters who apparently were ripped straight from comic book panels, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad appears to be the 2021 superhero movie. The costumes are bright, the faces absolutely crazy ( it’s Suicide Squad, after all), and everything about it, including the marketing, seems wacky. It will be released on August 6.

Eternal

The Eternals is a multi-star who would explore titular alien immortals who have stood against deviants like Thanos (at least in the comics) for millions of years. The film, directed by Chloe Zhao and written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, stars Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington. Eternals, previously titled The Eternals, releases November 5.

Spider-Man 3

The third film in the Spider-Man film series led by Tom Holland in the MCU appears to be all about the multiverse. Actors from previous Spider-Man movies like Jamie Foxx (Electro), Alfred Molina (Doc Ock) and even apparently Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spideys and more will return. Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role of Peter’s mentor, replacing Tony Stark. Spider-Man 3 will be released on December 17th.
