This article is a response to the article titled “You Cannot Lead the NPP as a Muslim and Northerner” which appeared on the Ghanaweb online edition on January 3, 2021.
The NPP is built on democratic foundations, pillars and structures for effective governance, and with a very strong belief in a free market corporate economy, and effective constitutional rule of law. The party’s work and triumph was forged in the crucible of adversity, challenges and the fiery furnace in the pursuit of individual freedoms, social justice, freedoms, equity and equality. in front of the law. The lofty ideals of the nuclear power plant have always transcended region, religion, gender, social and economic status. These lofty ideals must continue as a shining light to guide the party through the days and nights in the political cloud of Ghana.
The party chose the elephant as a symbol to underline its character, philosophy, relationships and governance. From One Tribe Apparel, the elephant symbolism represents sensitivity, loyalty, wisdom, stability, intelligence, peace, reliability and determination. Elephants are gentle giants, who show great care for their herd, offspring and elders. The elephant is very slow to anger, so it is a calming, stable and patient symbol.
By its enormous physical form, the elephant can destroy and dominate other animals, but it chooses to live in harmony with all. These leadership traits characterized former President HE John Agyekum Kufuor (often referred to as Gentle Giant) and now characterize current President HE Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. It is therefore extremely important that the NPP 2024 flag bearer mimics these character traits of the elephant to represent the party and lead the nation.
In an article titled “You Cannot Run the Nuclear Power Plant as a Muslim and Northerner,” attributed to Mr. EG Buckman, in which he addressed the issue of choosing the nuclear power plant standard bearer using a strategy South / North, he argued that it would be a mistake to designate Dr Mahmoud Bawumia as the party’s standard bearer for the 2024 elections because he is Muslim and northerner. This proposal is dangerous, backward, and it cannot and should not guide our party in choosing its standard bearer now or at any time in the future.
This comment must be relegated to the political abyss of ignobility and oblivion. I urge aspiring flag bearers to reject any proposal from their base of support which is odious, appalling, divisive, and detrimental to the life, unity, strength and governing capacity of the party. I also urge the party to be wary of any propaganda machine that may be deployed to cause divisions within the party. Although I believe the party should now focus on HE Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo’s second term as President of Ghana, this issue needs to be tackled with force and with immediate urgency.
As a member of NPP, I categorically and vehemently reject this proposal attributed to Mr. Buckman. The choice of flag bearer for the nuclear power plant cannot and should not be limited to regional or sectoral preferences. It should not be based on regional affiliation, religion, gender, economic and / or social status. It cannot be baked behind the veil of secrecy and imposed on the base party members. The flag bearer should be chosen based on visionary leadership traits, experience, exposure, knowledge, wisdom, reliability, reliability and good judgment.
The flag bearer must be a person with a record of outstanding performance and excellence, who has fought in the trenches and in dangerous terrains of rigorous campaigning and governance to serve the party and the nation. He / she must be a person with deep convictions and a steely faith in the philosophy and norms of the party to lead the country in its march towards socio-economic prosperity. The standard bearer must have the character, discipline and courage to stand up for Ghana and continue to uproot the root of the corruption that seeks to destroy Ghana’s economic emancipation with genuine investment for the salvation of posterity .
The next standard bearer is to be a cheerleader and champion of great leadership and outstanding performance from HE President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in the areas of Free SHS Policy, Digital Revolution, Planting Program for Food, the 1D1F initiative and the promise of the African Continental Free Trade Area in Accra, Ghana, to unleash great prosperity in the nation. Considering the above characteristics, the post of flag bearer should be competed for and won on the battlefield of the trait of visionary leadership, experience, exposure, knowledge, wisdom, reliability , reliability, good judgment and a record of exceptional performance and excellence.
In pursuit of such a noble ideal, NPP must unfold its cadre of big tent, big ideas, big policies and big governance strategies and choose a standard bearer who will win not only for the party but for the country. Therefore, I urge NPP to reject the South / North strategy for the selection of its standard bearer and the religious litmus test attributed to Mr. Buckman. The party must continue to choose its leaders based on their understanding of the call of duty and responsibility within the nation’s borders.
As members of NPP, we must continue to live the spirit and the letter of the national commitment. “I promise on my honor to be faithful and loyal to Ghana my homeland. I am committed to serving Ghana with all my strength and with all my heart. I promise to hold in high esteem our heritage earned for us by the blood and toil of our fathers. And I pledge in all things to support and defend the good name of Ghana. So help me God. The focus should always be on Ghana and not on the regions !! May God continue to guide the party in choosing exceptional and capable leaders. May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong !!
