Ghanaian striker David Accam opens up about his plans to quit football

Ghana striker David Accam in an interview with Citi FM revealed that he is considering quitting football after going through the past two difficult years.

The 30-year-old lost his father and his home in the United States was unfortunately destroyed by a tornado.

A year after his father’s disappearance, his wife being 9 months pregnant, Accam’s home was destroyed by a tornado that swept through the city of Nashville, causing devastation and monumental damage.

“Around midnight, while we were sleeping, that tornado warning set off the alarm on my phone. But when we woke up we had no idea what to do because we had never been trained on what to do in a tornado, ”he said.

“So we lay down on the bedroom floor and five minutes later it all happened. He destroyed everything in our living room, bedroom and kitchen, except the bedroom we were in. To this day, I still don’t know how we survived, only God knows.

“It was so scary but I’m grateful we’re alive. My wife was so shaken up. We both were. We had to rush to the hospital to check and make sure nothing happened to the baby and luckily she was fine, ”he said.

The former Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew forward said the events of the tornado, coupled with the difficulty in dealing with the loss of his father, almost led him to retire from football.

“It was difficult; one of the most difficult times of my life. I had never experienced anything like this before.

“Everyone wants to live a good life, but we also need to prepare for obstacles.

“For the past two years, I’ve been thinking about quitting the game and going home to stay with my family because of everything that’s going on, but I also realize I’m a breadwinner with a lot of people. who rely on me, so I had to keep going.

“I have learned a lot over the past two years; how to be resilient, how to stay strong in the face of everything, and here I am, surrounded by my family and friends and I’m just happy to be alive, ”he concluded.

The 30-year-old Nashville SC forward married his longtime girlfriend and Black Queens forward Florence Dadson in January 2019, but just three months later his father died after a long battle with cancer.
