A Kenyan woman makes free food and distributes it to her fellow Kenyans living in the United Arab Emirates who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic.
Wangeci Waruire was a driver for Dubai Taxi when the pandemic hit.
“I had to quit in October 2019 after months of minimal income because Terminal 1 at the main airport was closed and we are earning commissions,” Ms Waruire told the BBC.
The mother of three noticed that many other people were out of work and thought about relieving their stress by providing them with free food:
“My husband who was still working started buying me the ingredients and I started making food that I would pack and share photos on Facebook for people in my neighborhood to come and get,” she says.
Ms. Waruire prepares 20 to 25 plates of food twice a week.
She had in the past been recognized by the government and awarded with the award for the best taxi driver in Dubai:
