President Akufo-Addo said the government has been able to keep Ghanaians safe amid Covid-19 through the implementation of vital innovations.
“We have launched vital innovations that the WHO has since sought to replicate elsewhere,” he said in his last State of the Nation address on Tuesday.
President Akufo-Addo insisted that although the pandemic has rocked economies around the world, Ghana has not felt as much of an impact due to the measures taken by the government.
“Here in Ghana, our first priority in the fight against the pandemic has been, and will continue to be, the health and safety of our citizens,” he added.
According to the president, Covid-19 has given the government a chance to address outstanding issues in the health fraternity over the years, improving district hospitals and creating new ones where they haven’t.
He added that the government has also been able to revamp the national health insurance scheme and create jobs for 95,000 public sector health workers.
President Akufo-Addo also used the platform to urge Ghanaians to observe Covid-19 protocols because “the pandemic is still with us.”
