The parliamentary minority is demanding the immediate withdrawal of some 6,000 security agents, deployed by the government before the inauguration Thursday of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Minority in a statement signed by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu described the deployment as “a flagrant abuse of the national security apparatus to promote narrow partisan parish interests.”
He also said he would hold President Akufo-Addo accountable if security prevents any of his members from performing their duties in the House.
“We hold President Akufo-Addo as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Armed Forces and Chairman of the National Security Council directly responsible for this unwarranted and reckless deployment. We will hold him responsible for any violation or obstruction in the performance of our duties, ”the statement said.
“The NDC caucus in parliament calls for the immediate withdrawal of this detachment of soldiers, police and so-called national security agents.
“We will continue to resist the senseless assault on the pillars of our constitutional democracy. Ghana is not a dictatorship. Those who seek to erode our democratic gains and bring us into a tyrannical situation would be fought and defeated.

The parliaments of each democratic jurisdiction represent the bulwark of democratic freedoms and we insist that this excessive abuse of state power to intimidate MPs represents a desecration of our much revered parliamentary democracy and a serious affront to the dignity of the arm. legislative.
It is to defend the universal principles of good parliamentary democracy that our Rules of Procedure state in article 30:
