Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay has quashed speculation that he was one of the rioters who stormed the Capitol building, telling fans he “wasn’t with all these monsters.”
The 51-year-old posted a video to Twitter after posting a trend on the social media platform because of his resemblance to one of Trump’s supporters pictured during the riots in Washington DC.
Nicknamed the Q Shaman, the shirtless man with the American flag painted on his face – who also wore a furry hat with horns – a since been identified as Jake Angeli from Arizona.

He has been a regular at right-wing political rallies since 2019 and is a known promoter of QAnon – a weird right-wing conspiracy theory.
Jay Kay – real name Jason Luis Cheetham – put on an American accent to jokingly say to his 74.3k followers, “Hello everyone! Now some of you might be thinking you’ve seen me. in Washington last night, but I’m afraid I wasn’t with all those monsters. Just to say yeah, Happy New Year to all of you, haven’t seen you in ages! “
Commenting on the distinctive look of his double, he wrote in an accompanying post, “I love the headgear, but not sure it’s my crowd.”
In his short post, he also touched on his recent birthday and the group’s touring plans, which had to be put on hold due to the pandemic.
