Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) secretary general Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said the NDC will not recognize Akufo-Addo as president following a “flawed election”.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the party’s decision will remain resolved until “all issues surrounding its flawed election are satisfied.”
On January 7, 2021, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC boycotted NPP’s Akufo-Addo swearing-in ceremony as president.
According to the NDC, the deployment of military personnel at the inauguration of the 8th legislature “is a great assault on the dignity of the legislative arm of government.
“The events leading up to and during the election of the President have cast dark clouds over our democracy and once again exposed the anti-democratic tendencies of the administration led by Akufo-Addo.
“What happened on January 6 and 7 was just God’s way of bringing light to all the Ghanaians that the NDC complained about when we went to the polls,” Asiedu Nketia said.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also said: “No one other than Nana Akufo-Addo as Acting Commander-in-Chief of Ghana’s Armed Forces and Chairperson of the National Security Council was directly responsible for the unwarranted illegal invasion of Parliament. before this inauguration. “
Meanwhile, the NDC has urged newly elected president Alban Bagbin to put the country’s interest ahead of any other person or political party.
The party also called on the President to investigate the events of the eighth inauguration of Parliament and to punish all those found guilty under the laws of this country.
Although the NDC believes it to be the majority caucus, Asiedu Nketia said the NDC will have a clear majority in parliament after the issues relating to the constituencies of Techiman South, Sefwi Wiawso and Hohoe are resolved by the court.
