Former Deputy Justice Minister under the former government John Dramani Mahama, Dr Dominic Ayine, said the errors in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) petition challenging the 2020 result are of no consequence.
For him, the petition can be amended to correct errors before the start of the case. One of these errors was contained in the relief “F” of the petition, where the party sought to resume the election between Mahama and the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, he further revealed that the NDC had no evidence that its presidential candidate won the 2020 election. According to him, despite claims from the party hierarchy that the votes were padded in favor of President Akufo-Addo, “we never said that we had won the [presidential] election.”
“If we were convinced that we won this election, we would have declared it in the petition,” added Ayine, who is also a member of parliament for Bolgatanga East. In other news, Mahama said his refusal to concede defeat in the 2020 election was based on principle rather than an insatiable desire for power.
Speaking to Ghanaians on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, after officially filing a petition challenging the outcome of the Supreme Court election, Mahama said he knew what it was to concede.
The defeat of John Mahama in the recent election sparked pockets of protests from NDC supporters across the country and in parts of the world.
Recently, some Ghanaians in Washington DC protested against the election results. By holding up signs that read “We voted Mahama”, these staunch supporters of the former president are demanding the revocation of the 2020 election results.
So far, John Dramani Mahama has called for an independent audit of all the pink leaves from the various polling stations across the country.
He recently told Election Commission observers that he would readily admit defeat if the audit were carried out. The NDC opposition also challenged the electoral commission to release copies of pink sheets of the official statement of results for the Techiman South constituency.
The NDC insists it won the parliamentary race in the constituency where 2 people were shot dead in the ballot.

Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu said all attempts to get the commission to provide the party with the declaration sheets were unsuccessful. He alleges that the fact that the commission did not produce the reported results is an indication that the commission manipulated figures in favor of the ruling nuclear power plant.
