Several Republican leaders, including popular Indo-American politician Nikki Haley, have condemned Twitter for permanently disabling incumbent President Donald Trump’s account, saying “the United States is not China.”
Twitter on Friday suspended Trump’s account permanently over “risk of further incitement to violence,” days after his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol and killed four civilians and a police officer.
“Silencing people, let alone the President of the United States, is what is happening in China and not in our country,” Haley tweeted Friday.
“Unbelievable,” said the former US ambassador to the UN on Thursday, who at a closed-door meeting of the Republican National Committee in Florida last Thursday strongly condemned Trump’s remarks inciting supporters to mount an attack against the US Capitol.
The president did not always choose the right words and his post-election actions will be “severely judged by history,” she said at the meeting.
