Africa’s confirmed COVID-19 cases exceed 2.98 million: Africa CDC

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the African continent reached 2,986,564 on Saturday afternoon, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The death toll from the pandemic rose to 71,463, and a total of 2,433,002 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent, the Africa CDC said.

The most affected African countries in terms of the number of positive cases are South Africa, with 1,192,570; Morocco, 450,221; Tunisia, 154,903; and Egypt, 147,810.

South Africa also has the highest number of COVID-19-related deaths in Africa, at 34,789.

Ethiopia is the worst affected country in East Africa. His confirmed cases of COVID-19 stood at 127,572 and the pandemic-related toll 1,974 on Saturday, according to figures from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.
