Akufo-Addo announces 5 spokespersons for the election petition

The legal team defending President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the presidential election petition filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Dramani Mahama has announced the creation of a team of five bearers. word.

Spokesmen, including former Information Minister and MP of Ofaase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, have been appointed by the legal team led by Frank Davies to speak to the media on the president’s response to the filed petition last Friday.

The other spokespersons are the national communications director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the NPP national youth organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, the deputy director of communications, presidency, Fati Abubakar and member of the NPP legal committee, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante.

Response to the petition

In his response, President Akufo-Addo said the petition lacked substance and was rather an attempt to “save face” from former President Mahama.

“The immediate action is a ruse and a gimmick to save the face of the petitioner, after the petitioner and many senior NDC party officials prematurely claimed outright victory in the elections, only to be badly denounced by the results of the first respondent (CE), corroborated by all the major media houses in the country as well as by many independent local and international observers, ”said President Akufo-Addo.

The NDC wants the Supreme Court to overturn Akufo-Addo’s victory. Party leader John Mahama in his petition argued that declaring the incumbent as the winner was illegal because no candidate had obtained the required number of votes to be declared the winner.

He also wants another poll to be conducted between him and President Akufo-Addo.

It will be recalled that the NDC also announced in December 2020 a team of nine spokespersons for the petition.
