The Alliance for Responsible Governance (AFAG) has called for an independent investigation into the incidents that marred the inauguration of the 8th legislature.
He wants such an investigation because he “does not expect Parliament to conduct an impartial investigation, so he must appoint an independent body to investigate his fault.”
“The investigation should further address the issue of the deployment of heavily armed military personnel in the House of Parliament. AFAG would like to know who sanctioned this deployment and for what purpose, ”AFAG added in a press release.
He wants the investigation “to also recommend the appropriate sanctions for all actors”.
“The sanction must be in accordance with the regulations of Parliament and the laws of the land,” he said.
The incidents highlighted by AFAG in its statement include what it calls the assault on Ursula Owusu-Ekuful when she was pushed from a chair, the snatching of ballots by Carlos Ahenkorah, the kick from a voting booth by John Jinapor and what he calls the “unruly behavior of Muntaka and others.” ”
Much of the chaos in Parliament stemmed from a standoff between members of the Democratic National Congress and members of the New Patriotic Party over the voting process for the election of a new president.
The NDC insisted on a secret ballot in accordance with the law, believing that some NPP lawmakers planned to vote for its candidate.
For hours, scuffles broke out, led by NDC Caucus Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak, who tried to make sure his opponent did not check the ballots of NPP MPs.
At a time when NDC MPs were not happy with the process, they ransacked the voting areas and tore up the ballot boxes.

PROBE THE DISADVANTAGES OF PARLIAMENTARIANS
The complete collapse of law and order that resulted in several hours of chaotic scenes during the swearing in of elected MPs and the election of the Speaker of the 8th Legislature is possibly the worst incident in the House of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
Images from the nightly showdown showed many pockets of free brawls between NPP and NDC members that disrupted the overnight schedule.
AFAG calls for an immediate independent investigation into the incidents of the night;
– Assault on a member who was forcibly pushed from the chair
– Snatching and chewing ballots by the Hon. Carlos ahinkrah
– Ballot boxes and voting booths kicked by the Hon. John jinapor
– Unruly behavior of the Hon. Muntaka and others
AFAG does not expect Parliament to conduct an impartial investigation, so it must appoint an independent body to investigate its misconduct.
