Deputy Presidential Communications Director Fatimatu Abubakar reaffirmed that the NDC election petition will not overturn the 2020 election result.
According to her, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Ado selected competent lawyers, including Akoto Ampaw and Frank Davies, to take on the NDC in court, adding that the NPP would win the case.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show Ghana Nie, hosted by Nana Owusu Nkrumah, Fatima Abubakar said: “I am optimistic that the NPP will win the case. President Akufo-Addo believes in lawyers and so at the end of the day everything will be fine and the nuclear power plant will emerge victorious.
Fatimatu Abubakar also said that the NPP encouraged the NDC to resort to court for election results which they said were flawed to prevent violence from its supporters.
She noted that such protests could be chaotic and therefore lead to the destruction of the peace that the nation has always enjoyed.
“We told them to go to court because after the vote you win or lose.
“If you order your supporters to come out and demonstrate, then you are going against the country. The protests and all that could affect other people who want to have a normal life and that is why article 16 of the Constitution obliges you to go to court when you disagree with the election results so that they do not ‘there is no violence,’ she said.
Fatimatu Abubakar, who noted that the NDC petition contained errors and wrote to the court to amend it, said: “You are making a mistake and you can go to court for amendment, but you want to challenge the EC statement. ?
She said the NPP expected the NDC to present in court that it won the election as it claimed right after the election, but left that in the petition.
Again, she noted that the NDC complained about over-voting and filling up the votes of around 5,600 in the Ashanti and Eastern region.
However, she said that even if the numbers are added to those of the NDC, it will also not change the election results and the fact that Akufo-Addo won the election.
Fatimatu Abubakar was convinced that President Akufo-Addo had the nation at heart and intended to develop it for the next four years, saying the NPP would retain power in 2024.
