Christopher Beyere Baasongti, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Techiman Sud, disputes the parliamentary results for his constituency that the Election Commission (EC) declared in favor of Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party.
In this regard, Christopher Beyere Baasongti sued Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, who now sits in Parliament, the Election Commission and the Clerk of Parliament.
In a lawsuit brought to the High Court of Wenchi, Beyere Baasongti wants the declaration of Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah winner of the legislative elections to be overturned.
He also wants the Court to oblige the Electoral Commission to collect the results of the polling stations in the constituency in the presence of the representatives of the candidates.
Christopher Beyere Baasongti further requests that the High Court order the EC to declare him the winner of the 2020 parliamentary elections in the constituency.
He asserted in his lawsuit that there had been no collation of the results of the legislative elections for the constituency of Techiman South and, therefore, no declaration of results could have been made on December 8, 2020 as it was. claims to have been done.
“That on the evening of December 9, 2020, when the President of the 2nd Respondent publicly declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the winner of the presidential election in Ghana, she confirmed that the results of the elections in the Techiman South constituency had then not been still gathered, ”said the NDC candidate.
“That on the day of the filling of the instantaneous electoral petition, neither the petitioner nor any of his representatives were invited by the 2nd defendant or his agents for the collation of the parliamentary results of the district of Techiman South”, Christopher Beyere Baasongti has explained.
