NPP to take over majority seats by hook or crook – Annoh Dompreh

Nsawam Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh Dompreh said NPP MPs will by all means take their rightful majority place in parliament on Friday January 15.

Parliament will hold its third sitting on Friday after the inauguration of the 8th legislature and the swearing-in of Akufo-Addo as president.

Speaking to JoyNews’ Daniel Dadzie on Monday, the NPP caucus chief whip insisted the NPP would not tolerate any act that undermined its legitimate position in the House.

He said this, “Friday we sit where we are to sit. Whatever we do to sit down where we have to sit, we’ll just sit there and they have to figure it out.

According to him, if NPP MPs are confronted with the NDC caucus, they will “use reasonable force to return to where they belong, the majority”.

Nsawam Adoagyiri MP described the actions of NDC MPs as “most unreasonable and unthinkable”, insisting that they fail to accept the facts.

At the inauguration of the 8th legislature, the NDC caucus took the president’s right side to signify his majority position in parliament.

This led to several conflicts between the two caucuses which ended with Ablekuma West MP Ursula Owusu-Eufaula being moved from her seat as she insisted on sitting on the right side occupied by NDC MPs.

Mr. Annoh Dompreh said the notion of majority by the NDC is misplaced as MP Fomena identifies with the NPP caucus.

This act, he said, undoubtedly underscores their position in the chamber.

“Even when we were sworn in, the member for Fomena identified himself with us [NPP]. He sat down with us after our swearing-in. The question of who is in the majority is not in dispute, ”he said.

However, he urged both sides of the House to come to a resolution to avoid any conflict in future sittings.

In accordance with the Rules of Parliament, the majority caucus occupies seats on the right side of the Speaker and the minority caucus on the left.
