Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, publishes book with leading romantic fiction publisher Mills & Boon.
His heart for a compass is Ferguson’s first adult novel and is based on the life of his great-great-aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott.
The Duchess has already written a series of children’s books Parakeet the little helicopter, non-fiction about Queen Victoria and her own memoirs.
She said, “It all started with finding my ancestry. While digging into the history of the Montagu-Douglas Scotts, I came across Lady Margaret, who intrigued me because she shared one of my first names.
“But although her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, were close friends of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, I haven’t been able to find out much about my namesake’s early days, and so it is. that was born the idea which became His heart for a compass.
The book has been described as an “immersive historical saga” which “takes the reader from the salons of Victoria’s court and the great country houses of Scotland and Ireland, to the slums of London and the bustle of the merchant market for years. 1870 in New York ”.
Ferguson’s other cultural credits include conceiving the idea for the 2009 film Young Victoria, with Emily Blunt and written by Julian Fellowes.
She was the producer of the film and Princess Beatrice, the daughter of the Duchess and Prince Andrew, had a small role.
The new book will be released on August 3.
