Chief Justice Judge Kwasi Anin Yeboah has given assurances that he will verify the facts involved in the allegation that a Supreme Court judge attempted to bribe an elected Member of Parliament (MP) from the Democratic Congress National (NDC) to influence her in the election for a Speaker of Parliament.
A press release signed by Judicial Secretary Judge Cynthia Pamela Addo said the Chief Justice would seek help from the person who made the allegation, NDC Asawase MP Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.
“The general public is hereby assured that the Honorable Chief Justice regards this allegation of impropriety as a matter of grave importance to the integrity of the judiciary.”
“The Honorable Chief Justice is therefore taking steps to seek the assistance of Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, MP, to establish the facts so that the case can be dealt with appropriately. The public will be informed of any further development in due course, ”the statement added.
Allegations
In an interview with Accra-based Joy News last Sunday (January 10, 2021), Mr Muntaka, who is also the chief whip of the NDC caucus in parliament, accused a Supreme Court judge of trying to ‘urge a colleague from the NDC to vote. for Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye as President.
“Shamefully, a Supreme Court justice called a colleague to tell her what they would give her if she voted for Professor Mike Oquaye. He told her that they would help her take care of her children. She can get fuel at a gas station for free for the next four years.
“So we [NDC] will examine it. We will look at what time he made those calls, ”he said.
