Mesut Ozil could donate millions to speed up Arsenal exit, report says

The 32-year-old has been sidelined all season because Mikel Arteta considers him to be in excess of requirements.

It is obvious that the Mesut Ozil era is over at Arsenal.

However, Ozil remains an expensive part of the Gunners’ record as he contracted until the end of the season despite not being in Mikel Arteta’s plans. The Arsenal manager followed his predecessor Unai Emery in banning Ozil from private boxes after a brief spell in which the midfielder was auditioning – in fact – for his own work.

The hearing didn’t go well for Ozil: the 32-year-old was not signed up by the club for the first half of the Premier League and Europa League campaigns, rendering him ineligible to play for months.

Ozil has not entered the pitch for the Gunners since March 7, 2020, but he continues to collect a £ 350,000-per-week contract that the club are keen to lose.

With his future at Arsenal very decided, Ozil is said to have softened his stance on staying at the Emirates Stadium for the duration of his contract. According to a report from The Athletic, Ozil is said to be willing to forgo part of the remaining salary to join another club during the current transfer window.

The German would earn an additional £ 7million if he remained at Arsenal for the remainder of his contract, so a dropped salary could cost Ozil millions. While he is not expected to give up his entire paycheck, it will likely take a substantial sum to accelerate his move to another club.

Fenerbahce and MLS club DC United have been linked with the player’s signing, although Ozil is reportedly only willing to join the Turkish squad if he leaves Arsenal this month.
