The head of DC Films defended by Warner following the statement of Ray Fisher

Warner Bros. defended DC Films president Walter Hamada after Ray Fisher’s statement regarding his withdrawal from The Flash.

WarnerMedia has defended DC Films president Walter Hamada after Ray Fisher’s allegations against the executive as to why he was fired. Flash. Fisher has officially announced that he will no longer appear in the Ezra Miller-directed film after weeks of speculation his role was cut. The statement also detailed Hamada’s alleged involvement in covering up the involvement of former DC Films chairman Geoff Johns in the investigation into Fisher’s allegations of abuse and racism.

Hamada recently renewed his contract as head of DC Films until 2023. Prior to that renewal, Fisher said he would not be working on any DCEU films overseen by the executive. Some have wondered if this means Fisher is stepping down as Cyborg, but Fisher has denied claims that he will no longer play the character. Fisher’s statement sparked an uproar, and #IStandWithRayFisher started following trends on Twitter after the actor released his statement.

In a new statement to The Wrap, WarnerMedia defends Hamada over Fisher’s recent accusations. In the statement, WarnerMedia says that after Fisher refused to work with Hamada, the studio decided to go into production. Flash. They continue to defend Hamada against Fisher’s recent allegations, saying they believe he has in no way hindered the investigation. They also go on to say that they will continue to work with Johns after they have full confidence in the investigation.

As previously reported, a thorough investigation was carried out by an outside law firm, headed by a former federal judge who assured WarnerMedia that there were no obstacles to the investigation. Last summer, Mr. Fisher was offered the opportunity to reprise his role as Cyborg in “The Flash”. Given his statement that he will not be participating in any films associated with Mr. Hamada, our production is moving forward now. Warner Bros. remains in business with Geoff Johns who continues to produce Stargirl, Batwoman, Doom Patrol, Superman & Lois and Titans for the studio, among other projects.

WarnerMedia President and CEO Ann Sarnoff also released a statement:

I believe in Walter Hamada and that he did not hinder or interfere in the investigation. In addition, I have full confidence in the process and the conclusions of the investigation. Walter is a highly respected leader, known to his colleagues, peers and me as a man of great character and integrity. As I said in the recent announcement of Walter’s contract extension, I’m excited to hear where he’s taking DC Films and look forward to working with him and the rest of the team to build the DC. The back-and-forth allegations are quickly becoming a larger situation, one that WB probably wants to avoid as they plan for the future of the DCEU. It’s not a good idea to stand up for both Johns and Hamada amid the allegations, but it’s no surprise the studio is protecting its senior executives after an investigation that yielded vague results. It’s clear that the resolution the studio is hoping for won’t be as easy as slapping those involved in the face, at least if they want Fisher to stay on board.

Fisher said that despite previous reports, his role in Flash was much taller than a cameo, hinting at a much more developed arc for the character. This makes sense given the connection between the two Justice League, but now that arc appears to have been canceled, leaving Fisher’s future in the DCEU hanging in the air. It’s unclear what the studio’s plans for the character are, but Fisher himself has debunked the overhaul rumors. That still leaves a cyborg-sized hole in the DCEU, with Fisher saying it’s worth losing the role if that means seeing justice done. Fisher has not yet responded, but this conflict hardly seems far from over and, as Flash begins production, it is likely to continue in a very public way.
