– Leading NDC member – Ras Mubarak – says second lockdown is not healthy

Former lawmaker and prominent National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Ras Mubarak has urged President Akufo Addo not to order a second lockdown as part of measures to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
In a public letter to the president, this is what Ras Mubarak said:
“The majority of our compatriots and women cannot afford to live in lockdown again. It will increase crime and destroy our society than the virus would ”.
New figures from the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service’s official Covid19 surveillance site indicate that five more Ghanaians have died from the deadly virus, bringing the total deaths to 346.

Reopening of schools amid the spread of Covid-19
Ningo Prampram constituency lawmaker Sam George has said his children will not be returning to school anytime soon.
Taking to his Facebook profile, the maverick lawmaker said his children were better off missing their grades than being in a grave.
“After careful consideration and consultation with senior health professionals, my wife and I decided that our children would NOT be going to school on Monday or anytime soon. As said before, better a missed note than a grave, ”he said.

What is disturbing about these images is how these students have been left in the crowd and not in social distancing at a time when cases of covid-19 in Ghana are on the rise.

The government is under tremendous pressure to carry out a second lockdown. Ghana’s coronavirus positivity rate continues to rise. The Ghana Medical Association has warned that hospitals and intensive care units (ICUs) are overwhelmed with Covid-19 cases.
As of January 11, the number of confirmed active cases – as reported on the Ministry of Health’s website – stood at 1,404.
Figures from the Department of Health show an increase in daily figures since December – this has been linked to indiscipline, failure to adhere to covid-19 protocols and elections.
Already, the Ghana Medical Association has warned the public that “their health is in their hands” and that hospitals are overwhelmed to cope with the outbreak of the virus.
Better a missed note than a grave – Sam George keeps his kids at home rather than at schoolA concern has been the cost of testing as well as the lack of contact tracing by the Department of Health. These problems, according to the GMA, have led to a growing increase in Covid cases.
Even as the government rushes to curb the spread of the virus, suspicion of Covid-19 data deletion continues to rise. Journalists and some medical professionals doubt the figures presented by the Ministry of Health because they claim that they (the figures) are in stark contrast to the reality in various medical establishments.
Meanwhile, President Akufo Addo assured that Ghana was ready to roll out a mass vaccination program against Covid-19. Speaking during his recent speech on Covid-19, the President revealed that procurement processes are well advanced to secure millions of doses of vaccines in 2021.
This assurance comes as Nigeria, neighboring Ghana, has recorded a new case of the Covid-19 variant which scientists around the world say is more contagious than the Covid-19 we know of.
